Fedrick Dacres Wins Jamaica’s First Ever World Junior Championships Gold Medal In The Discus Event

18 year old Fedrick Dacres threw a personal best of 62.80 metres in the discus event today at the 14th IAAF World Junior Championships, to win the gold and become the first Jamaican to ever win a gold medal in the discus at the IAAF World Junior Championships. Dacres made the throw on his second attempt. Poland’s Wojciech Praczyk threw 62.75 metres on his final attempt to win the silver and the bronze medal was captured by South Africa’s Gerhard de Beer with a throw of 61.57 metres.

Last year, Dacres won Jamaica’s first ever global gold medal in the discus at the IAAF World Youth Championships in France, and following his exploits today in Spain, Dacres has become the first Jamaican man to win back-to-back global titles and also at the Junior level.
