Usain Bolt To Run First 100m For 2012 on May 5

100m world record holder and Olympic champion Usain Bolt will run his first 100m of the year at the JN Jamaica International Invitational (JII) track and field athletics meet at the National Stadium on May 5.

Bolt made his first appearance for the 2012 season on April 14 at the University of Technology Track and Field Classics, where he ran the anchor leg in a 4x100m relay race to lead Racers to a world-leading 37.82 seconds win.

Bolt last ran the 100m at the JN Jamaica Invitational in 2008, winning in a blistering time of 9.76 seconds.

JN Jamaica International Invitational 2012

When? Saturday, May 5, 2012 [ 2 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.]
Where? The National Stadium
Who? A world of top track & field stars in action. Confirmed athletes include Usain Bolt (100m), Yohan Blake (200m), Asafa Powell (200m), Melaine Walker (400m hurdles), Carmelita Jeter (100m), Sanya Richards-Ross (400m), Brittney Reese (long jump) and Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce (200m).

Also on the roster: Wallace Spearmon (USA), Christine Ohuruogu (Britain), Richard Thompson (Trinidad & Tobago), Kelly-Ann Baptiste (Trinidad & Tobago), Novlene Williams-Mills, Sherone Simpson, Jermaine Gonzales, Kerron Stewart, Dwight Thomas, Michael Frater, Nesta Carter, Bridgette Foster-Hylton, Ryan Brathwaite, Lerone Clarke, Germaine Mason, Dexter Lee, Peter Van Der Westhuizen (South Africa) and many others.

UTech Track & Field Classic 2012 – April 14

The 5th staging of the UTech Track & Field Classic, dubbed the ‘Meet of Clashes’, is set to happen at the National Stadium on April 14, 2012. It will feature a host of local and international athletes, including athletes from local and American colleges and universities, ahtletes from leading track and field clubs including UTech/MVP, and UWI’s Racers, and athletes from leading prep, primary and high schooles (based on their performance).

Among those invited and confirmed for the event are:

  • The best performing high school teams in the 4x100m and 4x400m for a ‘pre-Penn Relays’ competition

Tickets will be available at the National Stadium from 10 a.m. on the day of the event. Gates open at 2 p.m.
