Yohan Blake & Veronica Campbell-Brown Are JAAA Atheletes Of The Year

Jamaica’s sprint queen, Veronica Campbell-Brown, and world 100-metre champion Yohan Blake, won the female and male athletes of the year awards yesterday afternoon at the Scotiabank-sponsored Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) Golden Cleats Awards ceremony, held at the Terra Nova All Suite Hotel in St. Andrew. This was the second consecutive year that Campbell-Brown was winning the coveted award which was established in 2006.

Other winners at the event were:

  • Glen Mills (Racers Track Club head coach) – Coach of the Year
  • Travis Smikle (national junior discus champion) – Special Howard Aris Award aimed at recognising athletes who have excelled in field and non-traditional events

ScotiaBank Donates Money To Purchase Hurdles & Establish A Scholarship

Local financial giant ScotiaBank, has decided to expand its support of local track and field, and has donated US$5,000 to be used for the purchase of a new set of hurdles, and to establish a scholarship valued at J$500,000 in honour of former Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) president, Howard Aris.

CEO of Scotia Investments and senior vice-president of wealth management, Scotiabank Group, Lissant Mitchell, made the announcement yesterday while speaking at the sixth annual Golden Cleats Awards luncheon held at the Terra Nova All-Suite in Kingston.
