Yohan Blake Wins Performer of the Year IAAF Award

Jamaica’s young sprint prodigy, Yohan Blake, was announced yesterday at the International Athletics Foundation Grand Gala event as the winner of the IAAF Performer of the Year 2011 Award. The award was for his shocking 19.26-second 200m clocking – the second fastest time in history – at the Memorial Van Damme Diamond League meeting at the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels on September 16.

Usain Bolt Wins IAAF World Athlete of the Year (2011) Award

Jamaica’s Usain Bolt yesterday gained his third IAAF World Athlete of the Year award (and a US$100,000 cash prize) yesterday, making him only the second man in history – after Morocco’s Hicham El Guerrouj – to have won this prestigious athletics award on three occasions.

In addition to winning the 200m sprint title at the World Championships in Daegu with the fifth-fastest time in history, Bolt ended the season as the fastest over 100m (9.76) and was also a member of Jamaica’s world-record breaking 4x100m World Championships team.
